Module 1
Introduction
Introduction of the course, outlining the disciplines
and benefits of the course.
Module 2
Town Driving
This is a practical session concentrating on
observation, judgement and awareness, eye contact,
consideration for vulnerable road users, being cautious
- but not over cautious, keeping space around the car,
multi-lane junctions, unusual roundabouts, trams, bus,
cycle and taxi lanes, over and under passes.
Module 3
All Weather Driving
This may be a theory session. The aim will be to
discuss safe driving in extreme weather and road
conditions. Topics will include seeing and being
seen, using appropriate lights, safe speed and distance,
anticipation, causes and how to correct skids.
Module 4
Rural and Out of Town Driving
This will be a practical session featuring driving on
all types of rural roads to include:- bends,
hills, uneven roads and dead ground. Observations
and make progress safely, maintaining safe distance and
overtaking safely.
Module 5
Night Driving
This will take place after lighting-up time. It
will cover the correct use of lights, seeing and being
seen, judging speed and distance, adjusting to dusk and
dawn (theory), parking, anticipation and awareness of
pedestrians and cyclists.
Module 6
Dual Carriageways and Motorways
Topics include:- effective observations, judgment and
planning, joining and leaving carriageways, overtaking
and lane discipline, courtesy, fatigue and breakdown
procedures.
