I accidentally shrunk (felted!) my son Ronan’s favourite charity shop jumper a few years ago… In an attempt to redeem myself, and because I’m a ‘waste not want not’, up/re-cycling, crafty kind of person, I made him a nice cushion cover with it instead.

It wasn’t quite the same!

I’d like to say it’s his favourite cushion, but he left it in his old room at home…

I held onto the scraps, but didn’t know what to do with them.

Until recently!

It came to me in a flash of inspiration, as sometimes these things do – wrist warmers! They may not be a thing of great beauty, but they do keep your hands warm! The blood-flow to your fingers is warmed through your wrists. It really works!

So thinking optimistically about future drawing/ painting/ printing activities in the depths of winter, I knew that it would be a purposeful project! I will use them more than Ronan will use his jumper cushion!

Not just any old wrist warmers… ambidextrous, reversible wrist warmers!

It wasn’t intentional, but I realised there’s actually a ready-made ‘handy’ pocket (made by the neck cuff)! (What is the proper name for a ‘neck cuff’?!)

Tra-laaa!

Bonus – I have also ‘fashioned’ 2 effortlessly original leg warmers…

…or with a little imagination, arm warmers!

Only one legwarmer featured, for fear I couldn’t get it off again!

I didn’t quite achieve ‘zero waste’, but this wasn’t a bad effort:

I have previously made Rosie doggo several coats from charity shop finds/ found (human) coats (her ‘best’ one was a discarded hi-vis workman coat, chucked into some brambles – worth getting scratched for!) so I’m now on the lookout for the next project. Stay tuned!
