Mossy Tussock

Mossy Tussock

I spotted this mossy tussock on a walk not far from home a few weeks ago.

I was drawn in by the light catching some luminous-like lichen, which was glowing uncannily, standing out from the more usual muted forest hues. Once you start looking closely, other things catch your eye, and these pretty little mossy seed heads captured my attention.

Captivating contrasts in colour

I was keen to keep the colours true to nature, (though they look quite clashy)! There’s something about nature which is often stranger than reality. I hope I’ve managed to capture an essence of that oddity.

Little Mossy Tussock
Our woodland fairy friend
Collecting mossy seed heads
For her cushions, she must mend

Little Mossy Tussock
A friendly little thing
Stitching mossy cushions
Through the woodland, hear her sing

Little Mossy Tussock
Mistaken for a wren
For her singing is so lovely
It is heard around the glen

Little Mossy Tussock
Is the sweetest fairy child
She doesn’t even know it
She is modest, meek and mild

Little Laurie Lichen
Is none of the above
He is brash and brave and brazen
But for Mossy, full of love…
