Like Into the Trees, this print took off in its own direction!
I’ve never managed to do the copy/ paste/ tracing method that a lot of printmakers use. I think perhaps my drawing and painting background (as opposed to a design background) has something to do with it. My least favourite part of art college (apart from printing) was ‘graphics’. The tight, constrained accuracy didn’t appeal. And the ‘reproduction’ and ‘repetition’ element of printmaking doesn’t appeal to me now. I am more comfortable with a direct, looser and freer approach. I love it when something appears ‘out of nowhere’. It’s exciting!
Another ‘Edition Variable’, this plate was wiped more, to expose more of the line. It might be less dramatic in contrast, but it definitely shows more detail. I like the options that varied editions allow. It’s definitely a D&P thing!
Branching Out is from an A5 plate, roughly double the size of plate of Into the Trees and Windswept Oak and Oak Tree.
