Rosie – Pet Portrait

 

This is a graphite drawing of Rosie, our rescue (sight) hound. A ‘pet portrait’ from the portfolio in more ways than one!

She is a saluki cross, her DNA results came back as 50 – 50 saluki/ greyhound. A long dog (or long nose!), though a meeting with a Kuwaiti national suggested that she is full saluki.  She does, however also have many cat-like tendencies:

1. She is drawn to warm, sunny spots – no matter how small – and curls up in them
2. She chooses if and when she listens…
3. She likes to stand/ play/ lie on whatever you’re doing!
4. She can jump from zero to 6 feet, from standing, without warning
5. She moves with the grace of a gazelle in the Serengeti
6. She instinctively wants to hunt anything that moves
7. She can greet you like a long-lost friend, or ignore you completely
8. She will refuse to leave the house if it is threatening rain, or wind
9. She has the regal look of one who is better
10. And like cats, she has 9 lives…

The one she had before the one she has with us can’t have been great. She spent a good 5 months in the rescue recovering and then waiting for us to realise she was there!

I love using pencil for drawings with a variety of tone – keeping it simple with monochrome!
