In my quest to master a lovely graduation of tone through aquatint, I tried a coffee lift on the background of this plate. I have erased from memory what actually happened. (This was towards the end of weeks of work). I will have written it down in my sketchbook. No doubt with a sweary-word and several angry exclamation marks!
Malcolm very kindly told me that he likes the effect of the bottom bits that went wrong… He also did a clever photoshop edit on another dodgy patchy bit. I will write about this in a blog I’m planning, about everything that can (and does) go wrong with copper plate etching!
