It is nocturnal, so not often spotted in the day as it will be snoozing away in its burrow! They eat mostly seeds from trees, so much so, that when the trees have a lean-seed-year, the field mouse population drops in unison.
However, in more abundant years, the forgotten seeds germinate. A really good example of natural cooperation.
