Copper Plate Etching - Tree I

I decided to do a wee series of copper plate etchings of trees. This was the first one.
I took it from a distinctive oak tree in Caerlaverock, Dumfries and Galloway. An exposed position, it has grown sideways due to the prevailing wind.
I was keen to use aquatint to indicate tone in the clouds. Note for next time: etch the stages for a little longer!
I was pleased with the depth of tone in the foreground. A fair bit of stopping out, aquatint and etching involved here!

Here is a page from my sketchbook as I was working on this (originally, but not imaginatively called ‘Tree I’):

The numbers relate to the various sections to be stopped out after aquatinting, and etched for varying lengths of time, to vary the tone.
